The Global Encryption Coalition was
established by the Center for Democracy & Technology,
Global Partners Digital, and
the Internet Society with the goal of promoting and defending encryption where it is under threat. As you will know, a number of governments around the world are discussing regulations that would create backdoors to end-to-end encryption in messaging services like Signal and Whatsapp.
This coalition already includes a number of press freedom and media
development organizations including Article 19, CPJ, FPF, and IPI but we
would like to broaden membership to collect views and amplify our
collective voice. The coalition will be working towards Global
Encryption Day on October 21st where they will release a statement in
support of protecting encryption that organizations will be able to sign.
