Criticism: The Great Hack

After reading a /r/privacy thread I think there are some important points to take.

Background

The Great Hack is a documentary about the cambridge analytica scandal published in 2019.

Privacy invasions are not about one big thing

Privacy is a very complex problems and part of its complexity is because there is no single escape goat to blame (very much like the climate debate). Privacy invasions on the internet are cause by thousands of organizations every day to everyone.

The documentary focuses only on cambridge analytica but by doing so it makes people think that there is a single organization to blame and if the law protects against such organizations, then it is solved.

So as an organization, we should strive to make people understand that this is not only about some big players – It’s a whole ecosystem. I suggest you read the main post of the thread. It’s quite short!
